NBTC board approves licence fee cuts

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) board has approved a reduction in the annual licence fee of telecommunications businesses, aiming to encourage the operators to pass on the benefit to customers in lower service fees.

NBTC secretary general Takorn Tantasit said after the board meeting yesterday that the new rates would take effect this year.
The board also assigned the NBTC office to study ways to further lower the annual licence fee of radio and TV broadcasters.
Telecommunications licence holders with annual revenue of up to Bt100 million will be subject to a fee of 0.125 per cent of total revenue, down from the current 0.25 per cent. Those with revenue of between Bt100 million and Bt500 million will pay 0.25 per cent of total revenue as the annual fee, down from 0.5 per cent.
For those licence holders with revenue of between Bt500 million and Bt1 billion, they will pay 0.5 per cent of total revenue as the fee, down from 1 per cent. Those with revenue from Bt1 billion to Bt5 billion will pay 0.75 per cent and those with over Bt5 billion in revenue will pay 1.5 per cent. Currently, those operators with revenue of more than Bt1 billion pay 1.5 per cent of total revenue as the annual fee.
