TRADE DEPARTMENT CONSIDERS HALVING PERMIT PROCESS

The Department of International Trade is considering streamlining its permitting process for importing and exporting products. Importers and exporters would need to seek permits from only the relevant state agency. Permits must now be acquired from both the state agency and the department.
The department would authorise the Forestry Department to issue permits for timber, the Department of Agriculture for farm produce, the Department of Fishery for fishery products, and the Food and Drug Administration for food and drugs.
The department will forward the finalised plan for the Commerce Ministry’s consideration.

INTEREST RATES UNLIKELY TO RISE: KASIKORN RESEARCH

The Bank of Thailand’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is expected to hold the policy rate at 1.50 per cent at its November 8 meeting to reflect the country’s economic recovery, according to Kasikorn Research Centre.
It said that the MPC would likely signal a low-interest situation.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s stability remained robust and able to cope with external volatility and risks, and the Thai money-market liquidity has remained at a high level.
These factors could result in Thai monetary policy remaining independent from pressure from benchmark-rate increases by the world’s major central banks, the research house |said.
