New Year spending to reach a new high

Total spending over the New Year holiday period is expected to be Bt132.05 billion, up 2.1 per cent on 12 months ago, according to a survey by the Thai Chamber of Commerce University.

The university announced its prediction on Monday and said if achieved, this would be the highest amount since it began the surveys 13 years ago.
Nearly half the total - Bt64.29 billion – was expected to be spent in Bangkok people, with the rest, Bt67.75 billion, in the provinces.
Responders in the survey said they would spend the most on making merit, travelling both at home and abroad.
The average worked out at Bt60,135 per head, the university said.
