The Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Committee is studying the development of a new city within 20 kilometres of U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport.
The city would take shape under the proposed Airport City project that covers 6,500 rai and would serve the aviation and logistics industries as well as a free-trade zone.
Airport City would see the development of what planners call an Inner Aerotropolis, within 10 kilometres of the airport. It would be divided into different development zones to facilitate the Airport City. An Outer Aerotropolis would cover the three provinces in the EEC and would be connected by the development of an improved transport.
Kanit Sangsubhan, secretary general of the Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand, said that the development of areas surrounding U-Tapao international airport would mark a new pattern for development.
