Dtac submits first payment of Bt4.02 bn for spectrum

Mobile phone operator dtac has submitted its first instalment of Bt4.02 billion in the total Bt38.064 billion it will pay for the 15-year rights to the 900MHz spectrum that carries its services. The spectrum will be used by dtac Trinet until 2033. Under the licence from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, dtac will be able to use the spectrum from Sunday onwards.

After winning an auction for a 2x5MHz block of the 900MHz spectrum on the 890-895/935-940MHz bands, dtac agreed to pay four annual instalments, of Bt4.02 billion, Bt2.01 billion, Bt2.01 billion and a final payment of the remaining amount.
The acquisition of the licence completes dtac’s spectrum portfolio, which now includes the low-band 900MHz and the high-band 1800MHz and 2100MHz. In addition, dtac operates 60MHz of the 2300MHz spectrum in a partnership agreement with TOT. With a total bandwidth of 110MHz, dtac will now quickly update all of its systems currently operating on 850MHz to 900 MHz, to support the rapid growth of mobile Internet demand across the country.
