Exports expected to rise in second quarter

Thailand’s export in the second quarter is expected to expand between 0 per cent and 1 per cent if the situation caused by Covid-19 improves, Pimchanok Wonkorporn, director of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) said.

It is also believed that the global outbreak will boost the demand for farm produce, processed farm products and food this year.
Pimchanok said export in the month of March stood at US$22.405 billion (Bt728 billion), up 4.17 per cent year on year, mainly due to the rise in industrial product exports.
She added that the export of electronics products in March rose 17.59 per cent, representing an expansion over four consecutive months given that the global trade war has abated.
Other export products, including gold, furniture, auto parts, air conditioners, fruits, vegetables, frozen chicken and sugar, also expanded.
Import in March stood at $20.813 billion, up 7.25 per cent year on year.
Overall export in the first quarter rose 0.91 per cent to $62.672 billion, while import fell 1.92 per cent to $58.738 billion.
