BANGKOK, 16 September 2026 — The Rice Department, led by Mr. Arnon Noncie, Director General, Rice Department, together with Terranexx (Thailand) Co., Ltd, has announced a major strategic partnership to scale Thailand’s low-carbon rice ecosystem to a national level.

The initiative significantly expands on an earlier memorandum of understanding with the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC)—which initially targeted 1 million rai—raising the long-term target to 10 million rai. Covering about one-seventh of Thailand's total rice acreage, the initiative aims to create sustainable, stable income for Thai farming communities.

The inclusion of the Rice Department completes the fourth vital pillar of this national ecosystem, joining:

  • BAAC: Farmer enrolment and micro-financing
  • TGO (Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization): Premium T-VER carbon certification and methodology
  • Terranexx: GreenCalSi mineral soil conditioner,carbon project coordinator and rice offtaker
  • Rice Department: Agricultural knowledge transfer and nationwide extension networks

A Roadmap to 10 million Rai: Seamless Innovation Without Changing Farming Routines

The initiative outlines a concrete, phased rollout:

• Phase 1: Begins across 1 million rai of irrigated paddy fields to produce certified low-carbon grain verified under TGO’s Premium T-VER methodology.

• Phase 2 (Expansion): Extends across an additional 9 million rai of rain-fed paddy land, selected using strict soil-suitability criteria. BAAC branches and agricultural cooperatives will support and finance participating farmers, backed by training and extension support from the Rice Department network.

At the heart of the project is GreenCal Si, an innovative natural mineral soil conditioner made from locally sourced Thailand Diatomite and Calcium Sulphate. Developed and validated over four years in collaboration with the Rice Department and Kasetsart University, GreenCalSi requires only a single application at planting, with no changes needed to existing water regimes or traditional cultivation practices.

This zero-disruption application makes it ideal for rain-fed farming areas—which represent three-quarters of Thailand's rice land and typically suffer from lower yields. GreenCal Si boosts both crop yield and grain quality, cuts reliance on costly imported chemical fertilizers, and produces traceable, verified low-carbon rice.


Opening Doors to Premium Global Markets & Advancing Net Zero Targets

Terranexx is currently engaged in formal discussions with international buyers for both certified grain and associated carbon credits. This long-term pathway is set to open lucrative export avenues, sharpen Thailand's competitive edge in the global premium rice market, and directly contribute to the kingdom’s national goals of net-zero emissions by 2050.
