His Majesty the King has graciously approved a spire-topped tower design for the crematorium to be used at HRH Princess Bejaratana's royal cremation on April 9, 2012, Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome said yesterday.

The Culture Ministry will host a press conference to unveil the design on Thursday afternoon, after which a meeting of officials from agencies involved in building the crematorium would be held, she said, adding that construction should be completed in four months.

Arvudh Ngernchuklin, who chairs the Fine Arts Department's panel in charge of royal-crematorium construction, said the crematorium was designed as a tower with a spire, similar to HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana's crematorium, but smaller. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn would locate a gold-coloured crepe from China to decorate the crematorium, Arvudh said.

A National Theatre building would be used as a venue for creating the components of the crematorium, before a religious ceremony to be held on December 15, after which the crematorium would be assembled and installed at Sanam Luang,

he said.
