The attack took place at 9.45am on the Ban Hulupare Moo 1 Road in Tambon Tanyongmmat. Investigation showed that the doors and windows on the driver’s side were riddled with holes caused by shrapnel.
The blast also shattered the rear window of another car that was about 30 metres away, while a 60centimetre deep and about a metrewide hole was found in the opposite lane. Police believe that insurgents had remotely detonated the 5kilogram bomb.
Supawarit said he and four village defence volunteers were on their way to preside over the launch of a grassgrowing project in Ban Chulaporn Pattana when the culprits detonated the bomb.
He said he was obviously a target, because rangers had checked the road earlier and did not find anything suspicious. He added that the assassination attempt did not scare him and that he would continue working to protect the country.
