King Prachadipok's Institute refuses to review report

The King Prachadipok's Institute on Monday announced it would not review its reconciliation report as demanded by the opposition leader and Democrat Party leader.

Gen Ekkachai Sriwilas, the director of the Peaceful Ways and Good Governance Division of the King Prachadipok’s Institute, denied that its reconciliation report was onesided and biased in favour of the government.
The independent think tank, which has been operating under a budget from Parliament, has conducted a study on the causes of political conflicts sanctioned by the House special committee on reconciliation.
Democrat leader and opposition leader Abhisit Vejjjajiva on Sunday lambasted the institute, saying its report was onesided and biased in favour of the government, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and redshirt protesters.
Abhisit said the report failed to mention negative information about Thaksin and the redshirt people.
Ekkachai said Abhisit’s comments would be added to annex of the report as remarks on it. Ekkachai said the full report would be released at the Miracle Grand Hotel on March 21.
Ekkachai said the institute proposed amnesty for all sides and the undoing of legal cases initiated by the Assets Examination Committee in line with the conclusions from its study and from interviewing 47 people involved in the conflicts.
As part of the study, the institute explored the history of political conflicts in Thailand and all the major theories on reconciliation building and also reviewed studies on how to settle political conflicts in 10 other provinces as well as compiling opinions from public hearings of both redshirt and yellowshirt people.
