Judges drop libel case against Prompong

Three judges of the Constitution Court have dropped the criminal and civil proceedings on libel charges against Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit following a settlement, high court secretary Chavana Trimas said on Thursday.

In the out-of-court settlement, Prompong showed his remorse, admitted to have acted with a misunderstanding, formally apologised and agreed to the conditions set by the three judges, Chavana said.
“In the face of the climate of reconciciliation, the judges dropped civil and criminal litigations against Prompong,” he said.
The three are Charoon Intachan, Chalermpon Ake-uru and Suphot Khaimuk.
The lible charges stemmed from Prompong’s involvement in posting a clip on Youtube depicting a judicial meeting in private chamber ahead of the judicial decision on the Democrat Party dissolution case in 2010.
The clip was proven to be doctored to protray the judges as favouring the Democrats.
