Judges drop libel case against Prompong

Three judges of the Constitution Court have dropped the criminal and civil proceedings on libel charges against Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit after reaching a settlement, high-court secretary Chavana Trimas said yesterday.

In the out-of-court settlement, Prompong admitted to having acted out of a lack of understanding, formally apologised and agreed to the conditions set by the three judges, Charoon Intachan, Chalermpon Ake-uru and Suphot Khaimuk, Chavana said.

“In the face of the climate of reconciliation, the judges dropped civil and criminal litigation against Prompong,” he said.
The libel charges stemmed from Prompong’s involvement in posting a clip on YouTube depicting a judicial meeting in private chambers ahead of the judicial decision on the Democrat Party dissolution case in 2010.
The clip was proven to be doctored to portray the judges as favouring the Democrats.
