Kitti Thupsri, technical specialist at the Phitsanulok rain-making operation centre, Wednesday said, since March, the centre covering seven lower-northern provinces had dispatched 137 rain-making flights using a total of 150 tons of chemicals hence inducing 32 days of rain and aiding many farmers. However, as the drought became severer, farmers especially those growing rice, corn and sugarcanes urged for more rain-making operations, he said the centre that could send two up-to-three-plane flights a day yesterday dispatched planes to spray rain-inducing chemicals in Tak, Phitsanulok and Khamphaeng Phetch. He said that if the severe drought remained, the rain-making operations would have to be carried out until October.
