President Alpha Conde of the Republic of Guinea is on an official visit to Thailand from June 24 to 26 to foster bilateral relations between the two countries. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday hosted a welcoming ceremony for Conde at Government House and the leaders held talks on bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, as well as technical cooperation for further development.
Yingluck said she is confident that trade and investment between the two countries could grow, as the Thai government has encouraged and supported Thai businesses to invest in countries in varied industries.
She said the visit by the Guinean president was a good opportunity to introduce Guinea to Thailand’s private sector and state enterprises.
Conde was also scheduled to meet potential Thai investors and businesspersons from various sectors, particularly trade, mining, agro-industry, energy and construction, to promote awareness of investment opportunities in Guinea.
Yingluck also inquired about what business sectors Guinea sought for Thai investment, and privileges for Thai investors.
In the course of the historic visit, the first by a Guinean president since the establishment of Thai-Guinean diplomatic relations in 1983, two memoranda of understanding (MoU) were signed, one on technical cooperation, and another on the establishment of bilateral consultations.
On this occasion, the Thai premier will host a dinner in honour of the visiting Guinean president and his delegation at the Santi Maitri Building.
During his Thailand trip, Conde was set to visit major agro-industry facilities and meet with the Guinean community living in Thailand.
Conde's presence in Thailand is an opportunity for both countries to expand cooperation in various areas, both at bilateral and multilateral levels, for their mutual benefit. The visit would also provide an opportunity to promote better understanding and closer relations at the people-to-people level.
