Made-in-Thailand Cruzes not covered in recall

GM announced on Friday that it was recalling 413,418 Chevrolet Cruze cars in the US because of a risk of engine compartment fires. It is recalling the compact cars from model years 2011 and 2012 because liquids can be trapped near the engine and catch fire. The Cruze was GM's top-selling car in the US last year with 231,732 deliveries, according to researcher Autodata Corp.
In a statement released today, GM said "With regards to recent reports of a recall of Chevrolet Cruzes, General Motors Thailand/SEA and Chevrolet Sales Thailand would like to assure that this recall only pertains to Cruzes built in Lordstown, Ohio, USA and sold in the United States and Canada and several hundred exported to Israel. Cruzes built by GM Thailand/SEA and distributed by Chevrolet Sales Thailand are not affected by this recall."
