Murdoch's media empire has come under fire over serious phone-hacking allegations that have prompted a judicial inquiry into how the media operate in Britain.
The move, announced late Saturday, was "nothing more than a corporate house-cleaning exercise," ahead of a planned split between News Corporations' entertainment and publishing operations, a spokeswoman for News International said.
Murdoch, 81, resigned last week from positions in News Corp Investments, News International Group Limited and Times Newspaper Holdings in Britain, as well as stepping down from boards in the US, Australia and India.
However, he is due to retain his position at the head of News Corporation, based in the US.
It was announced late June that News Corp would split its entertainment business from its publishing arm.//DPA
