Plea to save DNP chief who raided illegal park resorts

A group of environmental watch agencies Monday submitted a petition asking Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra not to move the beleaguered director of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) Damrong Phidet from his post.

Critics had attacked Damrong for his action last week in leading 5,000 department staff to demolish nine big resorts located at Thab Lan National Park.
Environmental watch agencies, including the National Parks Association of Thailand, Sueb Nakhasathian, Thailand Environment Institute Foundation, Friends of The Asian Elephant foundation, and Foresty Alumni Society, have organised a press conference to support Damrong who led the demolition raid in the national park at Wang Nam Kheow in Nakhon Ratchasima and Prachin Buri's Na Di district.
