Suu Kyi, 67, is to chair the 15-member committee expected to focus on issues involving Myanmar's ethnic minority groups, officials said in Naypyitaw, 350 kilometres north of the former capital Yangon.
Suu Kyi, who won a seat in the April 1 by-election, in her inaugural speech to parliament last month raised the need for legislative changes to promote the rule of law and guarantee equal treatment for minority groups in Myanmar.
Her appointment comes as the authorities are facing international criticism for failing to protect members of the Muslim Rohingya ethnic group in the Rakhine state from sectarian violence that left at least 77 people dead in June.//DPA
