Payments to victims of Southern unrest boosted

Compensation payments for the deaths and disabilities of victims of violence in the deep South will be increased from Bt100,000 to Bt500,000 retroactively, effective January 1, 2004, the Cabinet agreed in principle Tuesday.
Payments for disabilities have been increased from Bt80,000 to Bt500,000. Payment of the extra amount will be permissible immediately, and those who have already been paid the lower amount will receive the balance no later than 2015, said government spokeswoman Sansanee Nakapong.
