Dusadee denies pressure, pleased with "promotion"

The outgoing chief of the Office of Public Sector AntiCorruption Commission, Dusadee Arayawuth, (PACC), made an about face on Monday, saying his transfer to become a deputy permanent secretary was not influenced by politics.

Dusadee, who will leave his post at the end of this month, told a press conference that he considered his transfer as a promotion.
It is, however, widely regarded that the position of deputy permanent secretary is an inactive post, with responsibilities dependent on assignments given by the permanent secretary.
Last week, Dusadee said he has been handling several hot issues and that suspects behind big case are close to influential figures. He added that investigation into the floodrelief projects might have been the catalyst for the decision to have him transferred out of the PACC. He said that maybe he stood in the way of others in several cases because he always took strict action based on evidence.
During Monday’s press conference Dusadee said: “I hereby affirm I am happy that Justice Minister Pracha Promnok has promoted me and is assigning me to be in charge of drug suppression, which I am good at. I was not pressured or persecuted by politicians.”
He said he feared that his transfer might be abused by people with malicious intention for political interests.
Dusadee said he did not know who would replace him at the new PACC secretarygeneral as a selection panel has yet to be formed but the new PACC chief must be able to explain why he is qualified for the position.
The press conference was witnessed by Pol Col Narat Sawatanan, who is tipped to be the next Justice Ministry spokesman.
