Kanchanaburi dams 'fine' after quake

An earthquake registering 2.9 on the Richter scale in Thong Pha Phum in Kanchanaburi on Friday night did no damage to Sri Nakarin or Vachiralongkorn dams in neighbouring Sri Sawat district, officials said yesterday.

Vachiralongkorn Dam assistant director Dilok Thanosawan affirmed that the dam was unaffected by the quake, which was centred 37 kilometres away, while Sri Nakarin Dam assistant director Wanich Saengsuwan said that dam was also unaffected. He said people could check the dam’s condition for themselves via CCTV at http://cctvsnr.egat.com/. Wanich urged people to have confidence in the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand’s high-tech systems to detect any abnormality quickly.
