Wall Street battered by weak earnings

New York - Major US stock indices each fell about 2 per cent on Wall Street Friday as weaker earnings reports failed to meet analysts' expectations.
The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 205.43 points, or 1.52 per cent, to 13,343.51. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 24.15 points, or 1.66 per cent, to 1,433.19. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index slid 67.24 points, or 2.19 per cent, to 3,005.62.
For the week, the Dow was up 0.11 per cent, the S&P increased 0.32 per cent and the Nasdaq lost 1.26 per cent.
The US currency closed up against the euro at 76.78 euro cents from 76.52 euro cents on Thursday. The dollar rose against the Japanese currency to 79.32 yen from 79.29 yen.//DPA
