Police later found a crater 80cm wide and 40cm deep caused by the explosion. They believed insurgents were responsible.
Meanwhile, in Pattani, two insurgents on a motorcycle opened fire at Sergeant Yutthana Luanthong, 31, and Private Ekkachai Nangwong, 31, while they were riding a motorcycle.
The insurgents shot at them many times, but Ekkachai, who was driving the motorbike, deliberated crashed it to avoid the bullets. Both soldiers survived with slight injuries.
