PM makes panda plea

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday asked Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao that the three pandas living at Chiang Mai Zoo be allowed to stay a bit longer, after the agreement expires next year.

Wen smiled and said he would ask concerned agencies to consider the request. The pandas – Lin Hui, Chuang Chuang and daughter Lin Ping – sent as a diplomatic gesture from Beijing have proven to be a hit.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Chinese students greeted Wen and Yingluck as they arrived for the opening ceremony of the China Cultural Centre on Ratchadapisek Road in Bangkok yesterday. The centre is a two-storey building with spaces for shows, exhibits and language classes, as well as a library.
