Chumpol in hospital after heart attack

Tourism Minister Chumpol Silapa-archa was in intensive care in hospital late yesterday after collapsing during a meeting on Thailand's bid to host the World Expo 2020.

Chumpol, who is also a deputy prime minister and the Chart Thai Pattana Party leader, underwent coronary angioplasty for a heart attack.
After, his brother Banharn, advisory chairman of the party, visited him and said his condition had improved. Chumpol was expected to return to work after recuperating for a month, he said.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra went to visit him once she came back from her trip to Dawei yesterday.
Chumpol had complained of chest pain and shortness of breath before passing out. He was rushed to Mission Hospital by ambulance.
His nephew Warawuth then arranged for him to be transferred to Ramathibodi Hospital, as Chumpol’s cardiologist is based there.
Yesterday’s drama is the second for the party, following a similar incident on November 23, when Sanan Kachornprasart, veteran politician and one of the party’s advisers, was rushed to hospital after suffering a severe emphysema attack. He has not fully regained consciousness and is still being treated at Siriraj Hospital.
