Christoph Waltz wins Oscar for best supporting actor

Los Angeles - Christoph Waltz won the first Oscar of the 85th Academy Awards Sunday, picking up the trophy for best supporting actor for his role as a bounty hunter in the film Django Unchained.

Austrian-born Waltz, 56, beat out a strong field in which Robert De Niro and Tommy Lee Jones had been favoured to win.//DPA
