DSI report on police-flat construction project to be ready next week

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will next week finalise its investigation into the police-flat construction project and submit it to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on April 24. The NACC will use this report in its investigati

The 163 police-flat construction project worth Bt3.7 billion became controversial when a decision was made to centralise the auction and award the entire project to PCC Development and Construction Co of Chiang Mai, which reportedly led to delays.
DSI chief Tarit Pengdith said the order centralising the bidding process was signed by Suthep on November 20, 2009 and Abhisit might be involved in it too because eight construction contractors had submitted their objection letters to him saying this move would delay the construction.
According to Thanin Prempree, director of the DSI's corruption prevention and suppression centre, each police flat is about 70-80 per cent complete. This is in sharp contrast to the Bt771.8-million project to construct 227 housing facilities for low-ranking police officers, which began at the same time and was already complete because the project had been auctioned off in lots, he said.
