Japan stocks inch up a day after rout

Tokyo - Japanese stocks inched up Friday, recouping some of the 7 per cent lost the previous day after an unexpected drop in a Chinese business confidence index.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average closed up 128.47 points, or 0.89 per cent, at 14,612.45, while the broader-based Topix index rose 5.74 points, or 0.48 per cent, to end the day at 1,194.08.
Stocks jumped in intra-day trading, with the Nikkei up 2.65 per cent and the Topix up 2.52 per cent at the close of morning trading at 11:30 am (0230 GMT), before settling back down in the afternoon.
The two indices lost 7.32 per cent and 6.87 per cent, respectively, on Thursday, after an index of purchasing managers' business confidence in China showed sentiment unexpectedly dropping.//DPA
