Govt appears to buy time for amnesty: Abhisit

The government is obligated to abandon the amnesty bill instead of using the delaying tactics designed to pacify opponents, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Wednesday.

Abhisit said although the government had pledged to accept should the Senate vote to defeat the bill, coalition MPs kept on saying they would reactivate the amnesty debate within 180 days.
“I want to see a clear stand of the government, the prime minister and the Pheu Thai Party because of conflicting signal aimed at buying time,” he said.
In addition to the blanket amnesty bill, the House has eight draft legislations related to political clemency.
