Uthai explains why he quit Parliament post

Former Parliament president Uthai Pimchaichon yesterday resigned as member of the government-appointed reform committee.

In his resignation letter, he said that his earlier proposals for the government to withdraw all amnesty and reconciliation bills had been blatantly ignored. These bills were withdrawn on Thursday following strong protests against the blanket amnesty bill that was passed in the third reading by the House.
In the letter he said that some members of the panel as well as the prime minister were not sincere about reconciliation.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana said the reform committee would postpone its work to the second half of the month.
