NSC chief sees rallies weakening

National Security Council secretary general Paradorn Pattanatabutr said he expected the rallies to weaken now that the Senate has rejected the amnesty bill.

“The government has clearly said it will not renew the push for amnesty, therefore this anti-amnesty sentiment should dissipate,” he said.
As for the resignation of the nine Democrats, he said it was a tactical move to shield the Democrat Party from risking dissolution. He said he was waiting to see if people would rally behind the call for a general strike from today to Friday.
Rally organisers have problems coming up with additional pretexts to sustain the rallies, he said, adding that the Preah Vihear issue was no longer an option to mobilise crowds.
