Somkiat Homla-or, president of the Business Club for Democracy, submitted 23,000 signatures to Senate Speaker Nikom Wairatpanich as part of its petition to impeach the 310 MPs.
Nikom said he would check the accuracy of the signatures before sending them to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).
“I will probably combine the signatures accumulated by the people’s anti-amnesty bill group with the signatures gathered at the Democrat-led protest, before sending the list to the NACC,” Nikom said.
Somkiat said the Business Club for Democracy will not join the Democrat’s rally, as the club’s mission is not to bring down the government. However, they will keep a close eye on political situation.
Former Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban Monday initiated a process to impeach the 310 MPs.
Suthep submitted his petition to the Senate Speaker, stating his intention to invoke Article 270 of the Constitution to initiate the impeachment process.
Suthep said he would have at least 20,000 signatures of voters to back the impeachment request on Wednesday morning.
Nikom said Suthep has 180 days to gather 20,000 signatures of eligible voters.
After receiving the signatures, he will have officials verify them before passing on the petition to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for an investigation, Nikom said.
If the NACC finds grounds to suspect wrongdoing of the 310 MPs, the NACC will submit the matter back to the Senate and it will require three fifths of senatorial votes or 90 votes to impeach the MPs.
