Thais keep up help for Typhoon Haiyan victims
The Philippines has asked Thailand to suspend for the time being the sending of more medical teams to areas hit by Typhoon Haiyan as the response in workers from many countries is sufficient for now.
However, donations from Thailand continue to be dispatched to the typhoon-hit country.
PM’s Office spokesman Thirat Rattanasewi said that Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul had reported initial aid to the Philippines included 1,000 sets of food and relief items from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm. Another 5,000 relief bags were donated by HRH Princess Somsavali in her capacity as president of the Princess Pa Foundation.
Thai citizens have donated Bt83 million in relief money, the Cabinet was told yesterday. In addition, the Foreign Ministry has given US$200,000 (Bt6.3 million) and the Thai Red Cross Society another $100,000 to the Philippines Red Cross Society, Surapong reported.
Thailand also dispatched a C-130 aircraft with necessities in the first urgent phase. The Kingdom will send two ships along with medical supplies and military engineers in the second phase.
