Pramon Sutivong, chairman of ACT, met with Opposition Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva for two hours yesterday. He said the Democrat Party had agreed with ACT on several points, but also planned to present its own proposals on Tuesday.
A few other political parties are also interested in ACT’s proposals, Pramon added. Abhisit said the party’s proposals to battle corruption could be taken up by either the next elected government, the People’s Democratic Reform Committee, or by any group that emerges from the current political crisis.
Other proposals put forward by ACT at the meeting included better funding for the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and the examination of past tax payments; an anti-corruption drive with greater public participation; and the introduction of transparent measures in line with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s anti-corruption programme.
The proposals are of urgent importance and should be adopted as quickly as possible, Pramon said.
