French embassy marks WWI

To commemorate the centenary of the start of World War I (1914-1918), the French Embassy will hold a ceremony on November 11 to pay tribute to the veterans who lost their lives in the "Great War".

The event will also honour the role of the Kingdom of Siam, which sent a contingent of volunteers in July 1918 to the western front. Siamese troops also took part in the Victory parade in the Champs-Elysees Avenue on Bastille Day, July 14, 1919.
An exhibition of contemporary photographs and objects will be set up, supplemented with films about the Siamese deployment in France during the war.
These photographic and audio-visual documents will later be opened to the public.
The Alliance Francaise will organise a film retrospective on this period throughout November.
