Thailand's place drops in World Giving Index
Thailand is ranked 21st in the World Giving Index which measures charitable giving behaviours among countries.
During 2009 to 2013, Thailand was ranked 13th. In terms of donation, Thailand is ranked 3rd, following only Myanmar and Malta, thanks to the high participation rate of people. However, by the number of donors, Thailand is ranked 5th, after India, the United States, China and Indonesia.
The annual index by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is calculated by simply averaging responses to three central questions. The respondent has to answer whether any money has been donated to a charity, any voluntary work has been contributed to an organisation, and whether any help has been provided to a stranger, all in the past month.
The CAF World Giving Index 2014 showed that 2.3 billion people around the world helped a stranger, 1.4 billion donated money and 1 billion volunteered their time for charitable causes.
