Chiang Mai people and tourists took part in the ceremony to give alms to 10,000 Buddhist monks and novice from Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Sri Lanka in Muang district at 6 am Sunday.
The ceremony was jointly held by the Chiang Mai Monastery, the Chiang Mai Administrative Organisation and other government agencies.
Parts of the collected alms would be sent to help 323 monks in the four southern border provinces.
