New World later renovated, building seven other floors on top of its fourth floor. After a long legal battle with the city administration, a Supreme Court verdict ordered that the fifth to eleventh floors be demolished after a closure of the entire building was ordered in 1997 during the tenure of Bangkok governor Bhichit Rattakul.
But the owner refused to
cooperate, so the city administration will do the demolition, which is expected to cost Bt10 million – a fee that will later be presented to the owner.
