5,000 rubber farmers to rally in Trang Friday

At least 5,000 rubber farmers are expected to attend a rally on Friday over the price of rubber in Trang's Sikao district, a leading member of a network of rubber farmers in 16 southern provinces said.
Saksarit Sriprasart said the farmers – including those who joined a road-block protest in Nakhon Si Thammarat and other sites – would join the rally, which will take place near the Bangchak gas station in Sikao’s tambon Kalase.
The network was in the process of gathering information to ask the Government to help farmers who are out of pocket due to the low price of rubber, he said.
Saksarit said Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan’s promise to change the price of rubber to Bt80 per kilogram was only for rubber sheets, which would benefit the middlemen who bought latex to make rubber sheets. The network wants the Government to keep the latex price at Bt80 per kilogram to help the farmers.
