NCPO postpones 'sensitive' media barometer event

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) yesterday ordered that the press conference on the media status index be postponed, as it was deemed a sensitive issue, a source said.

The press meeting, titled “Asian Media Barometer: Thailand 2014”, was organised by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and scheduled to be held tomorrow at VIE Bangkok hotel. A report on the 2014 Asian media index was to be presented at the conference.
The organiser said the NCPO asked to postpone the conference as current circumstances did not lend to it. After the May 22 coup, all events held by international organisations need to seek the NCPO’s permission.
