Legal team to use Facebook to gather complaints about haze

The Joint Private Standing Committee in Chiang Mai province yesterday launched a mailbox and a Facebook page to gather public complaints about issues related to haze in the North.

Committee member Wittaya Krongsap said a working team was set up to help solve the haze problem by making recommendations and to open new channels for public complaints via the mailbox – number 999 Chiang Mai 50000 – and the “Mok Kwan Wannee” (Today’s Haze) page on Facebook.
A team of legal experts has also been set up to give free advice to the public on haze issues, he said.
Jongklai Worapongsathorn, director of Chiang Mai’s natural resources and environment office, said the smog has come back since last Saturday and on Monday particulate matter less than 10 microns in diameter (PM10) was found to be 123 micrograms per cubic metre. He said officials had fought wildfires 1,002 times and there was 13,051 rai of affected forestland. The number of hotspots had reached 1,735 – while the hardest hit areas were in Om Koi and Mae Chaem districts, which had 59 and 37 spots respectively.
