They said the group, consisting of nine females and seven males, received no wages after working at a furniture factory for about two months, at which point they fled.
“My two daughters and son were among those being trafficked. My son is 16 and my twin girls are 21. I’ve heard from one twin, Nwe Nwe Win, but not the other. She told me they were sold separately. She said her and another two boys were working at a furniture factory in Kwun Tong for two months. She said she was now working at another furniture factory. I worry about my other children. I sent them to look for work because we are very poor,” said Ah Win Chey of Poakna village in Kyauktaw Township.
Tun Hla Shwe, also from Poakna, said: “I have no connection with my son, Nay Soe Win. The group was taken by Thar Tun Oo from Thayetchaung village, Pauktaw Township, in February. Tun Kyaw, who escaped from the factory, contacted us and said they had been trafficked. We don’t know how to contact our children.”
