App launched to help search for missing people

SEARCHING for missing persons will become much more convenient and efficient with a mobile phone app launched jointly by True Corporation and the Mirror Foundation.

“This is Thailand’s first application that contains the most complete information on missing people,” Ekkalak Lumchomkae, head of the foundation’s Operations Centre against Human Trafficking, said.
Starting next month, the ThaiMissing Application can be downloaded from goo.gl/9mSRP3 for both iOS and Android phones.
Supachai Jiaravanon, CEO of True Corporation, said the app will show pictures and standard information on the missing people.
“If users spot someone who fits the description, they can take a picture, indicate the location and report the information via the app directly,” he said at last week’s launch.
Ekkalak hopes this would improve the success rate by providing fast and fresh clues to the foundation.
“The problem is that information on missing persons’ whereabouts often reaches us too slowly, so cases go cold by the time we get it,” he said.
Information from users would also be helpful to police and other agencies to identify whether the people taken into custody or refuge |are indeed ones who have disappeared.
Users can search the pictures and information on missing people using keywords, gender and age. They can also use the location function to find missing people who have been sighted in a certain area.
Besides reporting on missing people on the list, users can key in data on people not on the list but suspected to be missing.
The app also gives information on people who have been found, to avoid misunderstandings, as well as news and information on how to prevent child abductions.
