The new satellite will replace the THEOS 1 (also known as Thaichote) whose five-year term will end soon. “The THEOS 2 will ensure continuity for various agencies’ use of satellite images in 2016-20 and will need Bt7.8 billion in investment capital via government-to-government cooperation,” Sansern said.
Thaichote, in cooperation with France’s EADS Astrium, has provided 110,000 images to Thai agencies – worth Bt6 billion if imported.
