Graves in Malaysia may link to Thai traffickers : national police chief

The graves discovered in Malaysia near the border with Thailand could possibly be linked to the human trafficking gangs in Thailand, Thai national police chief Gen Somyot Pumpunmuang said Monday.

Thai police is seeking information from Malaysian counterpart on the details of the discovery.
Meanwhile Malaysian police said they had found 139 grave sites and 28 abandoned detention camps used by people-smugglers and capable of housing hundreds, laying bare the grim extent of the region's migrant crisis.
Its National police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said it remained unclear how many bodies were buried in the inaccessible area of mountainous jungle along the Thai border.
Somyot said that the Thai police is starting their coordination with the Malaysian Police to track the entire human trafficking network in the region, simultaneously with the interrogation of captured human trafficker suspects to determine their involvement with the discovered graves in Malaysia.
Somyot has also commented that the unmarked graves discovered in both countries could be considered as international crime. Therefore, all involved nations should cooperate to solve this problem.
