Changes at Otep after graft claims

Education Minister Narong Pipatanasai sacked Somsak Tachai last week as head of the Office of the Welfare Promotion Commission for Teachers and Educational Personnel (Otep) after allegations of corruption.

This means his four deputies – Suradech Phromchote, Wattana Wannasopa, Danai Mahipan and Bumnet Tip-aksorn – would also lost their positions, ministry Inspector-General Pinijsak Suwanrang said yesterday.
So, Pinijsak signed an order to have three Otep officials act as Otep chief deputies in the interim until further instructions were given. They were Watcharin Palapol, Amnuayporn Wattanarom and Piyaporn Yaowaja.
He said he would also asked Narong to set up two committees to inspect problems and alleged corruption within the Otep.
