Combined usage reached 74,636 million kilowatts per hour (units), up by 1,556 million units from the same period last year.
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand earlier targeted a 4 per cent increase in power consumption for this year.
Despite the lower-than-expected growth rate, Saharath Boonpotipukde, deputy Egat governor, insisted that Thailand needs to follow the Power Development Plan for long-term energy security.
The plan includes 9 coal-fired power plants with combined capacity of 7,300 megawatts.
