The move stemmed from previous news that SCB’s job advertisement had reportedly indicated a desire to get applicants only from 14 leading universities on a given name list. This had drawn criticism and strong reaction, including a threat from the 40 universities to revoke all transactions with SCB. The bank dismissed the reports, which spread from social media, as incorrect, while also urgently clarifying the matter to the public and Rajabhat Universities.
Phanporn Kongyingyong, head of SCB’s retail segment, affirmed that SCB annually recruits 2,000-3,000 new employees, of whom several hundred were graduates from Rajabhat Universities. Also, many SCB executives were alumni of Rajabhat Universities, she added. Each educational institution produced quality graduates for the labour market and the bank had a role in choosing qualified graduates, Phanporn said. Rajabhat Universities is an important client for SCB and the bank has branches and ATMs at those universities for customers, she added.
