Police chief says bomb aimed to discredit govt

Police Commissioner General Pol Gen Somyot Pumpanmuang reiterated Friday that the bomb at the Erawan shrine was not linked to international terrorists but it was aimed to discredit the government.
"The aim is to discredit the government and create a climate of fear to deter tourists," Somyot told reporters at the shrine after a a memorial for the dead held in five religions' rites.
"There's a lot of progress, but I can't disclose everything," he added.
