Thriving industrial development in Nakhon Ratchasima

Industrial development in Nakhon Ratchasima is still thriving despite the closure of 25 factories, said Paisit Pitisongswat, chairman of Federation of Thai Industries in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Most of the shutdown factories are of small and medium scales, he said. With low capital base, they could not stand a decline in orders. Some small factories were closed for some time but they just recently notified the Provincial Industrial Office, Paisit said. He also noted that the number accounts for only a small part of over 2,600 factories located in the province.
Paisit also quashed the rumour that Srithai Superware would relocate its plant to a neighbouring country, saying that large-sized companies are better at withstanding the sluggish economic condition.
According to Nakhon Ratchasima's industrial office, the province accommodates 2,640 factories, employing 146,328 workers.
Year to date, 25 have been shut down, resulting in the layoff of some 3,000 workers.
"The industrial sector has gained confidence following the appointment of Somkid Jatusripitak as the new deputy prime minister. New investment should remain slow, though, until there are signs of the improvement in the economic condition and purchasing power," Paisit said.
